During the First World War 1.5 million Indians fought in the British Army – which means that every sixth British soldier was Indian. From July 9 through September 28, 2014 the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London dedicates an exhibition on “Empire, Faith and War: The Sikhs and World War One” to the “untold story of how one of the world’s smaller communities played a disproportionately large role in the ‘war to end all wars’”.
